The 300th Spartan
Aristodemus was awoken by one of his companions and was brought to the ceremony. The city of Sparta a very prosperous city and the most powerful of all the Greek states. King Leonidas brought a group of three hundred Spartans together. King Leonidas spoke once they were all gathered " the sons of Sparta your time has come to prove yourselves against a deadly force. The Persians a hated enemy of the Greek have already invaded the Greek state of Ionia and we will not this stand."
We then sailed over to Corinth were our King is starting a counsel to discuss the next course of action against the ensuing threat of the Persians. The Peloponnesians said that we should retreat farther back to isthmus and protect Peloponnese with the Athenians. King Leonidas and The Phocians and Locrians believed that defending Thermopylae was incredibly important. So the three hundred and the seven hundred Phocians and Locrians would take a stand against incredible odds and defend Thermopylae to the death.
It was a crisp morning with the sun shining. the god Helios giving his blessing for our trial ahead. One of our messengers came in and said that the Persians have landed. We moved quickly into valley were our three hundred men will stand and fight while the other seven hundred stay back. The sun was at its peak when we heard the loud chants coming from the distance. The Persians have arrived. They camped out in the distance so they could see what we were doing. Leonidas spoke before we slept. "My fellow Spartans eat well tonight because tomorrow you will be dinning with Hades(King Of The Underworld)".
The sun rose and all the men were lined across the valley. Leonidas gave us some more inspiring words because the fight but then he was interrupted by the screams of our enemies. We moved into a Phalanx. Which is a wall of overlapping shields and layered spear points, spanning the entire width of the pass. The Persians running straight into our spears sticking many men. Then the spears were gone and we took out our xiphos and held out our shields. We repelled the the first wave of Persians then the sky became dark and the sun was gone. The air was filled with arrows falling upon us. I looked up and then stabbing pain went through my body and I could not see out of my left eye anymore. When we set up camp, King Leonidas told Aristodemus and I to leave because we were no use anymore because of our injuries. We left towards Thessaly but then I felt my pride get the best of me and I had to go back. I knew I wouldn't be able to help much but when I got back my people were trying to repel another wave of Persians and I joined the fray. While the battle ensued I looked to my right and I saw our King get stricken down. We repelled the wave and then more Persians came. Then coming from behind were more Persians. We had to run to a near by hill. I dragged King Leonidas to the hill and then we battled the Persians. I felt cold after killing a Persian and I started to become dizzy and lightheaded. I then looked down and saw the cold metal sword in my chest and fell to the ground. I watched helplessly as all the rest of our troops were cut down and our King dragged off in disrespect. When the Persians then began to move again and the other Greeks threw down their weapons in surrender.
Side note: This battle took place possibly in August. There really was only three hundred Spartans and they all did die. This battle is referenced throughout many events in history. A movie called 300 comes out on March 9th 2007 that showcases this battle.

I've seen trailers for that movie ... it looks almost sheltered in a sense (from the way the director spoke). but interesting nonetheless.
